Dane Kinoshita struck out 10 batters Tuesday and the University of Hawaii at Hilo baseball team pounded Holy Names 10-2 in a Pacific West Conference game at Wong Stadium.
Garrett Micheels was 3 for 4 and John Abreu drove in three runs for UHH.
The Vulcans belted 13 hits, getting two apiece from Abreu, Austin Cusack, Brad Fairweather and Greg Cleary.
Kinoshita (1-2) earned his first victory of the season, allowing only five hits, two runs — one earned — and a walk. Gavin Kinoshita and Tyler Takata both added a scoreless inning of relief.
Zach Korte (1-2) was the losing pitcher for the Hawks (4-10, 3-4), yielding 13 hits and 10 runs with two walks and six strikeouts.
Cleary had a pair of doubles for UHH. In a four-run fifth, he doubled and scored on Cusack’s run-scoring single.
The Vulcans also scored four runs in the seventh. Ryan Fukunaga had an RBI single and Cleary belted a run-scoring double.
Hunter Dodson was 2 for 4 for Holy Names.
In the second game, the Hawks scored five runs in the first two innings off starter Seamus Yoneshige to pull out an 8-4 victory.
Micah Asburn, a Hawaii Prep graduate, started and pitched three innings in a no-decision. He allowed three runs in six innings, gave up six hits, and walked one and struck out two. Jayse Bannister, a 2012 HPA graduate, pitched a scoreless seventh.
Matt Kiyota, a HPA graduate, batted 1 for 4 with an RBI while Dodson went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Hawks (5-10, 4-4 PacWest).
Yoneshige gave up five runs in two innings on eight hits and a walk, and struck out one. Jeremy Dela Cruz pitched 4 1/3 innings of two-unearned run relief. UHH made four errors, which accounted for three unearned runs.
Sam Kim batted 3 for 4 and Clearly 2 for 2 to lead the Vulcans (6-14, 5-9).
